Croeso i Flwyddyn Un! Welcome to Year 1!
Year 1 News…
We love to use our outdoor environment and we have been busy using natural resources to help us with our learning. Our favourite so far was collecting acorns and using them to help us with our maths.
We have been using Talk 4 writing to improve our oracy and writing skills. We have created a story map of 'Supertato' to help retell the story and focussing on key words to increase our vocabulary. We will be using our innovation skills to create our own 'Supertato'...
What’s happening this term?
Hello and welcome to a new school year!
It is fantastic to be back and to welcome a new class into Year 1. We have an exciting term ahead of us. Our topic this term is ‘Food’. The children have already been planning what they would like to find out. Here are some of their suggestions:
· Tasting different foods.
· Visting a farm.
· Farm shop role play area
· Painting and printing with fruit.
· Where does our food come from?
· Having a picnic.
Our literacy this term is based on the stories ‘So Hungry’, ‘The Tiger that came to Tea’ and ‘I, Doko’. We use Talk4Writing strategies to improve our creative writing and to retell stories. Phonics are part of our daily activities using Read Write Inc scheme. Our Maths focus this term is Place Value, addition and subtraction with lots of practical activities.
Welsh is part of our daily routine, and we have our special puppets Fflic and Fflac to help us. We are learning about the farm in Welsh and fruit and vegetables.
We love using the outdoor environment. We have visited our school woods, been nature explorers and Maths detectives. Cool Time (Choose our own learning) is part of the daily routine where children choose their own learning and reinforce concepts learned in a focus group. The children are also sharing, taking turns and cooperating during this time.
We have an exciting term ahead and look out for Tweets from year 1.
