Ohio! This term year 5’s topic is ‘Siapan a Chymru’ We are comparing life in an Asian country to life in Wales. The children have planned so many questions they would like to answer and they were even sent a Japanese letter to start their topic. The class had a special visitor and they have learnt to write and say their names in Japanese and have had lots of fun learning some greetings! ‘Arigato,’ ‘Matanay,’ We are also studying the book ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom.’ They are looking forward to a Pokemon day soon, where they will be designing and getting creative! The children in year 5 are also responsible for being ‘Playground Buddies.’ They are on duty once a week to make sure that everyone has a great playtime. They also do a super job at looking after the playground equipment and play shed.
What’s happening this term?
Year 5 have had an extremely busy Autumn Term learning all about Japan. We completed the term with an enterprise project and selling our crafts in the School Christmas Fete. We made origami boats, cranes, boxes etc and painted ‘Great wave’ pebbles, our inspiration from ‘Hokusai.’ We set up the stall and took charge of it and we are so proud because we made £63.00 for our school.
Year 5 have also presented in assembly, making their own ‘Playground Buddy’ presentation to remind all of the children about safe and happy break times and have continued to do their duties all term. We even made origami Japanese Samurai hats for our Christmas dinner day.
We have started ‘Talk 4 Writing’ which is making our writing even more interesting and we are really challenging ourselves in our maths work.
