What’s happening this term?

We have an exciting and engaging term ahead in Dosbarth Oren!
Our main topic this term is ‘Terrific Toys’, where the children will explore toys from both the past and present. They’ll learn how different toys are made and investigate what kinds of toys mums, dads, and grandparents might have played with when they were younger. As part of our topic, we’re also planning a visit to Picton Castle to discover more about toys throughout history.
In English, we’ll be focusing on character description through the story Dogger. The children will also be learning about letter writing and recounts. Towards the end of the unit, they’ll use their understanding of character to write their own imaginative stories.
In Maths, our focus will be on place value, as well as addition and subtraction. We’ll also explore money during our topic lessons, using our class ‘toy shop’ to give children real-life opportunities to handle and use coins in a meaningful context.
In Science, we’ll be investigating materials. The children will explore different types of materials and learn how this knowledge helps us understand what our toys are made from and why certain materials are chosen.
In Welsh, we’ll continue to develop our everyday language through songs and rhymes. We’ll be learning the days of the week, practicing greetings, and asking and answering simple questions, such as whether a friend has an item.
We’re really looking forward to a fun and enriching term, full of opportunities to build on our skills and knowledge!
