The pupils and community of Saundersfoot CP School have been working together to assemble school bags for Ukrainian children who attend schools in Pembrokeshire.

This term the school  welcomed a pupil from Kyiv, Ukraine to Year 5, and the  class provided a school bag with all the necessary resources for a pupil to welcome them and help them succeed and learn in their new country. ‘This was such a success’ said Headteacher Mr. Nick Allen ‘we decided to scale up the project and provide school bags for any Ukrainian pupil enrolling in schools in Pembrokeshire. We really believed as a community this project would help in a meaningful and genuine way.’

We asked families to donate; Ruck Sack (unisex, plain colours ideally) Lunch box, Drinks bottle, Pencil, case Pens, pencils, rulers, rubbers, colouring pencils or felt tips. picture book and a new note pad or colouring book and anything else would benefit a pupil in this situation.

Mr Allen added, ‘I do need to thank all parents and carers who helped contribute to the project and especially Year 5 who helped put the school bags together. An excited group of children accompanied myself as we handed them over to Darren Gilbert, Leader worker for the Pembrokeshire Ukrainian Scheme. Part of our school vision is to help our children be emotional literate with well-being at the forefront of our education and this project certainly promotes that for all. We hope the school bags help children from the Ukraine settle into their new life in Pembrokeshire.’
